Purpose Statement

Performs a variety of administrative duties in the planning, development and implementation of instructional, recreation and fitness classes along with other aquatics programs, sports and special events while in liaison with the Aquatic Center Director.

 

This job reports to the Aquatic Center Director

 

Essential Functions

  • Provide a creative educational service to students in the district, public and other individual and user groups as necessary.
  • Use excellent customer service skills, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials and all members of the general public.
  • Supervises, motivates supervisors, lifeguards, instructors, and coaching staff of Winter League and Summer Team swim coaches.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Lee’s Summit R-7 Aquatic Center and any outside user group or program using the facility.
  • Responsible for the organization and implementation of all facility Aquatic programs.
  • Conducts and coordinates training programs for lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.
  • Independently plan, develop, implement schedules and supervised related instruction, recreational, fitness, and therapeutic classes, programs, sports and special events.
  • Supervises classes, workshops and special events for Aquatic Programs and CO-sponsored programs.
  • Assists in the supervision of participants, completes record sheets, statistics for classes, and assists in applying for applicable grants.
  • Inventories, plans, and prepares supplies and equipment for classes.
  • Promote a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all facility users.
  • Provide in-service training for Aquatic Center lifeguards, instructors and other staff members.
  • Work with colleagues in District to develop a swimming lesson program for students in the district.
  • Assist in building cleanliness, rental/program set-ups and clean-ups.
  • Assist the Aquatic Center Director in expanding provision for children/adults with additional support needs.
  • Assist the Aquatic Center Director in developing a system for monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of the programs.
  • Update the Swimming Program with information regarding the operation of the program in line with the monitoring system.
  • Monitor the skills of staff providing lessons advising Aquatic Director of any operational problems.
  • Operate the registration/booking system and deal with customer’s inquiries and complaints reporting them as appropriate to the Aquatic Director.
  • Assist the Aquatic Director in implementing new activities to expand the swimming development program.
  • Any other duties as directed by the Aquatic Center Director

 

Other Functions

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

 

SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: training; supervision; office practices; administer basic first aid and CPR; effective listening; leadership; and guiding others.

 

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies: safety practices; and health standards.

 

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization's services.

 

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, swimming, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

 

Experience Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired

Certificates & Licenses American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate (WSI); and CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate, Lifeguard Guard Instructor (LGI), and USA Swimming Coach Certification

Continuing Educ./Training Renew Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer on a yearly basis.
